Tea business, tea business, let’s see…
In the tea business, sometimes you’ve got to write a blog. Ha!
In all fairness, I may have stumbled upon something there. Persistence.
How do you run a tea business? You have to keep running the tea business.
That means; more trays to be washed tomorrow, more bags to be labeled next week, more paperwork every day that we keep the lights on. We can look forward to more organization, more cleaning, and more orders to fulfill. Sometimes we blend tea, but truthfully we spend considerably more time processing ingredients, picking ingredients, packaging and packing than we do blending tea. In the time that it has taken me to write and rewrite this blog I could’ve mixed several batches of our UP Chai. Even then, we use a mortar and pestle to break down the cardamom pods, peppercorns, cloves, and cinnamon bark. When I’m finished my thumbs are burning lightly through a mild numbness from the whole process, but I love it.
We have customers, we have orders, we have a product we enjoy. What work is not worth doing to hold on to that? That means things need to be done, so you may as well find a way to enjoy it. I start my day alongside my wife and our pets. We head to the kitchen and begin working, but there's music and good company. We know our deadlines and can dance along the path forward. Before you know it, we’re all finished and then have time for what we want to do, like take a hike with the dogs. I think I’ll start including a picture with my blog each week. Here’s one from today’s hike.
